-- Youngsters from Sterling Elementary School in Burbank were recognized from the floor of the Ohio Senate this week by Sen. Ron Amstutz, a Wooster Republican. -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation announced more than 6,000 Ohio employers represented in 79 safety councils would share $29 million-plus in savings as a result of their successful participation in the state's Safety Council Discount Program.

COLUMBUS -- Five words inserted into legislation four years ago are the reason some 50,000 not-quite-slot machines have surfaced in the state. Lawmakers and Gov. Ted Strickland intend to put a stop to that in coming days, thanks to a bill that is flowing through an abbreviated legislative process -- and one that prompted an entertaining floor debate in the state Senate last week.

LOUISVILLE -- Amy A. Schloneger, 87, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at St. Joseph Care Center, Louisville. Services will be Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Beech Mennonite Church in Louisville, with Pastor Dan Kling officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Patterson Passionate, Provocative in 'Cabaret'

When Katy Patterson takes the stage as Sally Bowles in this weekend's production of "Cabaret" at The College of Wooster's Shoolroy Theatre, patrons may notice some similarities between the actor and the character she portrays. "Sally is energetic and provocative," says Patterson, a 2005 graduate of Wooster High School. "She knows no bounds."

College of Wooster Roundup Women's Soccer Coach Brown Nets 200th Career Win

The College of Wooster women's soccer team cruised past visiting North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, giving the Fighting Scots' 17th-year head coach David Brown his 200th career win. Brown, now with a 200-99-23 record (.657), entered this season ranked among the top-50 in NCAA Div. III women's soccer active coaches in both all-time victories and winning percentage.

Wooster Geoscientists to Present Research

WOOSTER -- A group of eight geoscientists from The College of Wooster have been invited to present the results of their research at the Geological Society of America's 119th annual meeting Saturday- Wednesday at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. It will be the first of three meetings focused on the International Year of Planet Earth, a theme established jointly by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the International Union of Geological Sciences.
