Fresh-Cut Grass and French Fries

Ah, the smell of fresh-cut grass -- a sure sign that spring is in the air. But there's also another familiar scent in the air at The College of Wooster these days, and it is one more closely associated with autumn. One of the mowers used by the campus grounds crew runs on vegetable oil from the dining halls, and, according to Beau Mastrine, director of grounds, "it smells like the fair."

CRESTON -- Carol Lee Dessenberg, 68, formerly of Rittman, died Sunday morning, April 5, 2009, at the home of her brother in Creston following a brief illness. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Creston. Private family services and interment will be held at Rittman Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions to help with final expenses to Murray Funeral Home, 173 S. Main St., Creston, OH 44217.

ASHLAND -- Donna Jean (Houston) Hines, 84, of Ashland, died unexpectedly early Friday morning, April 3, 2009, at Grant Hospital in Columbus. She was born in Ashland County on Feb. 23, 1925, to the late Charles C. and Ada Brown Houston. She had been a resident of Ashland County her entire life. She was a homemaker and a member of Clear Creek Church of Christ.

FREDERICKSBURG -- Mary J. Keim, 66, of 7928 Weaver Road, Fredericksburg, died Saturday, April 4, 2009, at her home following an extended illness. She was born near Apple Creek on May 22, 1942, to the late John and Mattie (Miller) Troyer and married Roy J. Keim on Oct. 17, 1963. He survives.

Ray Mast

BIG PRAIRIE -- Ray C. Mast, 62, formerly of Shreve Road, has had a change of address. He decided to accept the Lord's invitation to permanently reside in His home Sunday, April 5, 2009. Ray was born Feb. 19, 1947 in Mount Hope, the son of the late Poppy Christ and Orrie (Gingerich) Mast. He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Yoder) Mast whom he married June 14, 1975.

College of Wooster Report Tim Pettorini became the eighth coach in NCAA Div. III history to win 900 games on Sunday, doing so when his College of Wooster squad swept North Coast Athletic Conference East Division foe Hiram College by scores of 10-4 and 3-0 at Fishel Field in Hiram.
