Summary


Are you and your children prepared for a winter emergency? The Federal Emergency Management Agency recommends six basic types of supplies you should have in your home -- water, food, first aid supplies, emergency clothing and bedding, emergency tools and supplies and special need items.

You should have a minimum of three days supply of water. That comes out to one gallon of water per person, per day. While I usually recommend recycling whenever possible, refilling empty gallon jugs may lead to contamination since you can't sterilize old milk and juice jugs. You should invest in bottled water in sealed containers, it won't go bad.
