Minks Can Go Into a Frenzy and Kill Everything in Sight

Summary

Sometime Monday night, a mink paid a visit to our shed. What it came for I don't know, but I found the mink on Monday morning lying dead on the shed floor. It was a foot and a half in length, including the tail, which was black at the tip, lightening to dark brown on its narrow body and head. It had a spot of white under its chin, laid-back ears, and short, muscular legs.

Minks are not uncommon here, but this dead one was the first I ever saw except as a fur on a stole. They are nocturnal and secretive, and generally stay away from people. The dead one could have been the same mink that broke into a neighbor's hen house two years ago and killed every chicken. After a mink has killed one animal it can go into a frenzy and kill everything around it. Minks do not, however, suck the blood from the animals they kill, as some people believe.
