Sentimental Journey the Last Grandparent Standing

Summary


I will forever remember her standing by the front door, her aging body bent over her walker, waiting beneath the lantern light, her arthritic hand waving goodbye, as I called from the driver's window of the car, "I love you, Mom." Although she tried to hide her emotions, she wiped an errant tear from her brown eyes with the handkerchief she forever stuffs into her pocket.

I guess at 87, there are many tears to shed. Her floral housecoat flapped in the summer breeze, her body slim with age as it once was as a young housewife chasing her three young charges. After pulling from the drive, I watched her collapse into the wrought iron chair by the door. Another goodbye. She was so very weary of them.
