Wooster Grad Named Ohio Solicitor General

Summary

Benjamin Mizer, a 1999 College of Wooster graduate, has been appointed Solicitor General for the State of Ohio by Attorney General Nancy Rogers. The Solicitor General represents Ohio and all of its departments and agencies in the United States Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Ohio Supreme Court. He also provides counsel for the Attorney General on legal issues.

Mizer, who graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in political science, credits Wooster for much of his success. "I had several mentors who gave me a lot of help academically and showed me a path to a career in law," he said. "Also, the opportunity to find my way intellectually, mostly through the I.S. program (Wooster's nationally acclaimed Senior Independent Study project, which matches a student with a faculty member in a yearlong research project that culminates in a graduate-level thesis, performance, or exhibition) but also Moot Court competition, was very important to my Wooster experience."
