Summary
Recently, every household in America was examining its pantries to see if there were any food product that may have been connected to a specific peanut processing plant because of an outbreak of salmonella. The media did a fine job of informing the public of the potential problem and necessary precautions. The U.S.D.A. did a yeoman's job of compiling an all-inclusive product list that possibly might contain some of the contaminated product.
What wasn't reported was how quickly U.S.D.A. laboratories (working around the clock) gathered outbreak information, isolated a common food, and then traced the food product back to a single source so that potentially contaminated foods could be removed from stores and homes.See the full content of this document
